Course Overview

Practical Context Before the Next Decision.

Field training officers shape how new personnel translate academy knowledge into safe, professional, and consistent performance. This course prepares FTOs to teach, observe, coach, evaluate, document, and remediate within a structured field training program. It addresses the difference between personal preference and agency standard, the importance of useful daily observation, and the need for feedback that is direct enough to improve performance. Participants also examine the FTO's role as trainer, evaluator, mentor, and representative of organizational culture.
