Aspirant Consulting Group is pleased to announce that Robert Merkle Jr. has joined the firm as part of Aspirant Ohio. His combined background in law enforcement, criminal investigations, municipal law, police administration, and policy and procedure adds another valuable perspective to Aspirant’s work with public safety agencies throughout the state.
Merkle completed a 20-year law enforcement career with the Springfield Township Police Department, where he served in patrol, vice and undercover investigations, field training, criminal investigations, and supervision as a sergeant. His investigative experience included more than 10 years handling serious felony-level cases, including robbery, homicide, and felonious assault, as well as work involving cybercrime, crime scene processing, fingerprint examination, and investigations involving child victims of sexual offenses. He also served as a liaison to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program and worked as a Computer Voice Stress Analyzer operator.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Merkle is a licensed and practicing attorney in the State of Ohio. He completed law school and became licensed before retiring from law enforcement in 2015. His legal and professional experience includes serving as a Fraternal Order of Police attorney, municipal law director, criminal and noncriminal investigator, police administration consultant, and death penalty and homicide investigator through the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas.
Merkle’s areas of practice include criminal law, municipal law, police administration, police policy and procedure, employment law, labor law, contract law, estates, and investigative services for attorneys. His experience across law enforcement, investigations, municipal government, and legal practice gives him a broad understanding of the operational and administrative issues that public safety agencies regularly face.
In his work with Aspirant Ohio, Merkle will contribute his experience to the firm’s continued support of public safety agencies across the state. His background will be especially valuable in matters involving policy, investigations, police administration, municipal considerations, and other complex issues that require both practical law enforcement experience and legal understanding.
Aspirant Ohio reflects Aspirant Consulting Group’s continued commitment to providing Ohio agencies with practical, credible, and locally informed support. As agencies navigate changing expectations, policy requirements, investigative challenges, employment matters, and broader organizational demands, they benefit from advisors who understand both the realities of public safety operations and the legal environment in which those decisions are made.
Merkle’s addition strengthens that commitment. His experience as a police officer, investigator, supervisor, attorney, municipal law director, and consultant will bring a valuable perspective to the Aspirant Ohio team and the agencies it serves.
We are pleased to welcome Robert Merkle Jr. to Aspirant Consulting Group and look forward to the experience he will bring to Aspirant Ohio.
